Scripture memory is so important.
It is more like messed up me needs Jesus more goals. You know what I mean?
This past year I have been disappointed in the time I have given to God. Not enough and I’m determined to change it!
Beth Moore does a scripture memory program each New Year. Your goal is to memorize two scriptures a month. You write your verse down in her comments and you work on it until the 15th where you say it for someone and start your second one. You can read all about it here. I’m so excited to be a part of it!
I have used her index card book idea for some time now. I use it for myself and my children have one also. I have even given them to my adult class in Sunday school. They are a great way to help you memorize scripture. You write the verse and can carry it with you everywhere you go. This year I am using a book Beth Moore sells (see pic below) but you can get a plain one in almost any store really cheap!
Beth suggests you pick a verse that applies to your life right now so not only are you memorizing God’s Word but you are applying these verses to your current situations you are living right now. I love that!
Some other ways to help you memorize scripture:
Use Kids CDs. like the Sing the Word From A to Z, don’t worry they are for kids, they work great for adults too because once you get the tune in your head you can memorize it. I did this years ago and can say all the disciple’s names and the books of the Bible because of the song.
Break it down into pieces. Work on memorizing the first part, then later the second part. It helps us that struggle with memorizing.
Use posts it notes to put them around your house. On your mirror when you’re getting ready, on your computer or laptop, or anywhere you will see it daily.
Memorize it with a friend, spouse, or even your teen. There is just something great about accountability that keeps us focused. Challenge each other and reward yourself after you get a set amount memorized. Some great rewards would be an ice cream out together or a day trip. We reward ourselves for so many other things, isn’t learning God’s Word worth it?
I would love to hear in the comments your verse or how you work on scripture learning, I’m always looking for ways to learn it!
