I am participating this year in Modern Day Mrs. Darcy’s “things that are saving my life”. The winter can drag on and on and now with the pandemic and lockdowns, it can be even worse. For our own mental health, we have to have things that bring us joy, escape, and fun!

Leo – a year ago this month we got our Golden Retriever puppy Leo! We had lost our last dog to cancer a year before that and felt we needed some time before getting a new dog. With Social media the way it is now we were able to see pics of the litter from birth on and it was such a joy keeping up with our pup until we brought him home. We had no idea Covid was coming and we were so glad to have him when it hit and we were homebound. He has given us so much joy this last year and we felt it was just a wonderful gift from God!
June’s Journey- I make it a point to not get involved with too much gaming on my phone because I know what an addiction it can be and then you end up getting nothing done. But at the end of last January, I came upon this find it game called June’s Journey and I have fallen in love with it. You solve murders as well as other cases and you travel the world in the 1920s. I love this time period and it is such a great escape. I only play free, I don’t buy any upgrades and I still get just the amount of playing time in. As you find objects in scenes you find out more and more about the cases you are solving and you also have a village that has to be decorated along the way. I have quite the village now. This is a wonderful escape if you are looking for one. Just don’t let time get away from you. I time block my gaming in so I don’t go overboard.
Skincare– I’m finally taking care of my skin the way I’m supposed to. I have totally fallen for this natural line which is my all-time favorite, I have been amazed how much better and confident I feel using it! I now sell it on the side I love it so much! I always had such dry skin, so dry that I couldn’t wear foundation because the skin would flake so severe that it would look terrible. I can now wear makeup or not but my skin looks and feels so much better! When they tell you that healthier skin gives you more confidence they mean it!
Reading- My reading life really picked up in the fall of 2020, I have always been a reader but I just barely would get in a book here and there and now I feel like my reading life is full! My husband loves for me to read to him so I have one book going that I read to him and we listen to one Audiobook together. Then I try to do the same for myself, one I’m reading and one on Audio. The things that have made this happen more easily for me are:
My new subscription to Audible
My Amazon Book Wish List (just a great way to keep track of all the books I want to read in one place, I use it to pick from the library or for Libby or Audible or to buy)
The Food Nanny- I have never enjoyed cooking very much but The Food Nanny has changed that. I have all of their cookbooks and I love their Kamut Flour. If you are looking for a way to get dinner on the table you have to check them out.
Instagram Stories – Instagram stories can take you to all kinds of places if you follow accounts that you love. I can be watching someone make a great recipe, follow a trip to Paris and see my favorite puzzles just by watching stories. I make sure to follow accounts of things I love and remember if you like someone’s picture feeds but are not a fan of their stories or vice versa you can mute just the stories or feeds without unfollowing the whole account. You can follow me here
BBC TV- I love BBC TV, I feel blessed as an American I can watch British TV, I love the mysteries and humor and I really love the characters feel like real people. People of all sizes, all ages, people who are beautiful, people that are not. It feels so much like real life. I’m loving right now All Creatures Great and Small, I have always loved the James Herriot books and this show makes me feel happy! I also have a membership to BritBox, I’m loving it right now!
What is saving your life right now?
I love The Food Nanny’s Instagram. I could watch her cook all day. She makes it look easy. I haven’t ordered the flour yet. Pricey and I’m not sure I can devote the time to it. But, I’m intrigued.
