Our Favorite Preschool Board Games

Family· Family Activities· Gift Guides

We love board games here; they are the perfect way to connect as a family and the perfect family night!  We wrote a list of our top 10 Preschool Board Games-next to each title it tells you a little about the games.  We played every one of these games and loved them.  I will say some of the games are not made like they used to be, unfortunately (they don’t hold up as well) but these are our favorite.  If you are looking for games to buy for the preschoolers on your shopping list or just want to have some great games at home for your younger ones, these are great!  Do keep in mind some of them have small pieces so if your child still puts things in their mouths, you would want to avoid some of them.

1. Candy Land – The Kingdom of Sweets Board Game -Start down the magical road to sweet surprises! This adorable version of the classic Candyland game features colored cards and fun illustrations that kids love, with different destinations like Cupcake Commons and the chunky Chocolate Mountains. Choose your cards, move your pawn and let your imagination soar as you make your way to the castle to win!

2.  Go Fish! Card Game –  Go Fish is a great way for young kids to learn how to play cards – how to hold them, how to deal, how to read the numbers, how to take turns. The game set includes instructions for a simple game and a challenging game. The art is fun and friendly and very modern and the package makes a great gift!

3.  Old Maid Card Game  – This simple game is a timeless favorite for modern kids and oldsters alike. Updated with fun and colorful graphics, Old Maid is sure to be a regular at family game night.

4. Chutes and Ladders – Climb up and slide down in the exciting game of ups and downs, Chutes and Ladders! You and the character on your pawn can see the square marked 100, but it’s not so easy to get there. If you land on a good deed, you can shimmy up a ladder, but land on the wrong spot and you’ll shoot down a chute! Spin the spinner to see how many spots you’ll move. Will your new spot send you down or move you up, up, up? Slip, slide and see if you can win at Chutes and Ladders!

5. Memory Classic Memory – Fun to match and learn with the Original Memory Game. Learn while you play in the endlessly popular Memory game! Memory is simple to set up and learn. You’re ready in minutes to match your favorite animals. Find the match to every animal card you turn over. The game is over when all the matches have been made – and if you’ve found the most matches, you win! No reading required to play.

6.  Hi Ho Cherry-O – Preschoolers can have so much fun picking fruit to fill their baskets, they don’t even realize they’re developing and practicing math skills, such as counting, addition, and subtraction! Choose from two different play options and take turns picking pretend cherries, blueberries, apples, and oranges from your tree. When it comes to a fruity fun way to sharpen kids’ math skills, you couldn’t pick a better game!  Beware:  There are small pieces to this game!

7. Don’t Spill the Beans – After a grownup snaps this smiling red plastic bean pot together, it stands 5 inches tall. The trick is for two to four young children to drop beans onto the pot’s lid, one by one, without spilling them. The more beans there are, the more care they must take. If–well, actually, when–they upset the balance of the pot, they spill the beans. And naturally, everyone squeals and has a good time. The first person to get rid of all their beans is the winner. This is a fun game for young children, and no reading is required to play, but be sure to keep those beans out of reach of kids who are still apt to put things other than real food in their mouths.

8. Richard Scarry Busy Town – Join Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm on a Busytown adventure, racing around Busytown to search for hidden objects in this fun-filled collaborative. Richard Scarry’s classic world comes to life in the gigantic, colorful game-board. Drive through city streets, an activity-filled farm, a busy airport, and a bustling harbor full of boats. There’s so much to discover along the way!  Beware:  There are small pieces in this game!

9.  Hungry Hungry Hippos – You’ll have a chompin’ good time with Hungry Hippo and his pals. Be ready to join in the feeding frenzy when you release all the marbles onto the game base because all the hippos will be chomping and your hippo will need to move fast. If he chomps the golden marble, you win. Beware: Small parts

10. My Grocery List – Watch your child delight in filling their own shopping basket with all of the groceries on their grocery list in this fun matching game. How to Play: Place groceries face down, Match groceries to your shopping list, Fill your shopping basket.
