I have a book list on Pinterest of books I want to read in 2014. Most of my list is about family life. They are about being more intentional with my parenting, growing in God together, and connecting with my kids on a deeper level.
I wanted to share my list with you if you are looking for great reads this summer or year for that matter-this would make a great list!
Lead Your Family Like Jesus – Does your family need a five-star general at the helm? A psychologist? A referee? Ken Blanchard, the best-selling co-author of The One Minute Manager and Lead Like Jesus, points to a better role model: the Son of God. Joined by veteran parents and authors Phil Hodges and Tricia Goyer, renowned business mentor Blanchard shows how every family member benefits when parents take the reins as servant-leaders. Moms and dads will see themselves in a whole new light—as life-changers who get their example, strength, and joy from following Jesus at home. This user-friendly book’s practical principles and personal stories mark the path to a truly Christ-centered family, where integrity, love, grace, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness make all the difference

Praying the Scriptures for Your Children – Jodie Berndt shows you how to make the Bible a book of prayers that can powerfully influence your children’s lives. You’ll discover how to pray specifically and expectantly for their faith, character, safety, relationships, and future. You’ll gain new, biblical perspectives on God’s purposes for your children. And through the encouragement of the Scriptures and true-life stories, you’ll find out what a huge difference your prayers really make in the lives of those you love most.
rhinestone Jesus – In high school, Kristen Welch wore a big, sparkly rhinestone “Jesus” pin to school every day and carried her Bible wherever she went. (Yes, she was that girl.) But she didn’t realize her faith, though sincere, was shallow; much like her artificial accessory, it would one day tarnish, no longer a true fit for who she was. As real-life catapulted Kristen into places and situations she’d never imagined, there came a day when she stood shocked in the slums of Africa and realized in one desperate moment that Jesus wasn’t enough for her. At least . . . she wasn’t living like He was.
Saying Yes to God as a Family – is a 30-day Scripture reading plan for families, with practical guidance on how to connect with God’s Word around the dinner table. You’ll find questions for your kids, conversation starters and icebreakers, family prayers, and more. Kristen shares her own story of why this has been so important for her family and how they got started, offers suggestions that have worked for them, and provides a practical, easy approach for your own family to adopt.
Connect with your kids today and strengthen their faith as you break bread together—and go deeper with the Bread of Life.
Notes from a Blue Bike – Life is chaotic. But we can choose to live it differently. It doesn’t always feel like it, but we do have the freedom to creatively change the everyday little things in our lives so that our path better aligns with our values and passions.
The popular blogger and founder of the internationally recognized Simple Mom online community tell the story of her family’s ongoing quest to live more simply, fully, and intentionally.
Part memoir, part travelogue, part practical guide, Notes from a Blue Bike takes you from a hillside in Kosovo to a Turkish high-rise in the congested city of Austin to a small town in Oregon. It chronicles schooling quandaries and dinnertime dilemmas, as well as entrepreneurial adventures and family excursions via plane, train, automobile, and blue cruiser bike.
Entertaining and compelling—but never shrill or dogmatic—Notes from a Blue Bike invites you to climb on your own bike, pay attention to who you are and what your family needs, and make some important choices.
It’s a risky ride, but it’s worth it—living your life according to who you really simply take a little intention. It’s never too late.
