A great way to be intentional with our children is to make time for play!! I will confess, this hasn’t always been a strong point of mine! I’m not much into playing Barbie dolls or building Legos! However I will say I have forced myself many times over the years to do just that!
Because I know I’ve invested in my children’s memory banks and it is worth my time and effort to do just that!
I will say though, if you are not much at playing “toys” there are many other ways to fit play into your life with your kids! I am pretty good with electronics (my husband is VERY good with them) so we enjoy video games! We have made wonderful memories with our Wii(to me, this is the best game system for families)! Animal Crossing: City Folk – Nintendo Wii is a game you can play where everyone gets their own house in a town you create! You can fish, catch bugs, and find rare fossils! You can donate them to your museum and sell things to make money, my kids and I love it! I saw an article recently of a dying mom who was not able to move much because of a horrible disease who played Animal Crossing for hours with her children! She couldn’t do much physically but she wanted to create memories with them somehow in her last days! This was a mom who wanted to be intentional till the end so that her children would have the memories and now they have a town on their game system that their mom help create! Priceless!!
This is another thing that sometimes parents forget to do as their children grow. When they are small you are more likely to play with them but as they grow you forget how much they enjoy special time with you for this! Their interests change so you have to be creative and come up with something they enjoy! Even a teenager has interest and loves to play (think laser tag/video games) Step out of your comfort zone and play! Don’t worry if you’re not “good at it”, your kids just want your time!! You just might find you have a blast and the memories you will create will be worth it! They will never forget those times they had with you!
Here are some ideas to help you get play time in: These are for mom and dads!
Build a Lego set, Knex’s, or model car project together
Play Barbies or Pet Shops or whatever small toy your little girl loves

Bubbles and/or sidewalk chalk
Maybe give a child 15 to 30 minutes a day with you! Schedule a different child each day! It is great to say, ‘oh I will play with each child everyday but that can get unrealistic, especially if you have more than 2 children! Set up a realistic plan, you will be more likely to keep it!
