There is just something beautiful about that special place Narnia that captures our hearts and mind in The Chronicles of Narnia. I LOVE reading CS Lewis and I know this one is probably on most of your shelves already. However I couldn’t do a character building series without speaking of Narnia. There are way too many character lessons for me to mention in this post but you will see these wonderful characters experience:
good and evil
love and power of Aslan
courage and faith & More!
In the Voyage of the Dawn Treader I love a scene where Lucy is wanting so bad to be beautiful and Aslan reminds her of her value. We all question our value at times, don’t we? Are we pretty enough, are we in the right circles, do our kids fit in, and on and on often forgetting that God himself created us, HE doesn’t make mistakes or wish HE could redo. We all have a purpose, to Glorify HIM and HE gifted us with exactly what we need to do that.
The part where the kids would be warned they would be tempted was good too, a great reminder that the world will pull and pull on us wanting us as believers to be sucked in by its glitter. Riches, Fame, Beauty, ah they are all tempting but will never satisfy. Just look at Hollywood to know that. We need to be careful and keep our eyes on eternity; for it is there that we will be forever and ever. The things of this world will pass away but our reward will last lifetimes..
I’m amazed at the gift of CS Lewis, what a wonderful author-we are blessed to be able to read anything he wrote. He was a man who knew his Savior and no doubt God inspired his work. I’m also struck by the fact that the lessons he tells are ones that are just as important today(probably more so because of such a culture decline) then the years he wrote them. May we all learn from his wonderful stories of the kids in Narnia.
I found out on Money Saving Mom recently that you can listen to the complete set Chronicles of Narnia Audiobooks for free from Ancient Faith Radio. I was so excited to hear this because I have read through the set once with my oldest. There is 4 yrs difference in my first two children and only 18 months between my 2nd and 3rd. So many of the books I read to him I am now reading to the youngest. Listening to audio books helps us get our wish list of books to read more realistic. I just can’t read them all. Audio books are so great for when your family is cleaning the house, special quiet times or in the car.
“No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.” C.S. Lewis―
